iPhone3G announced

June 10th, 2008

Here’s Apple’s new iPhone3G. Compared to the original iPhone the iPhone3G has built in tri-band HSDPA, a new back cover that comes in 2 different colours (you can get it in black or white) and GPS. There is support for Microsoft Exchange along with many new 3rd party Apps.

The biggest and most important different is the price: $199 USD for the 8GB or $299 for the 16GB. Canadians get the same pricing (199 and 299 CAN for 8 and 16).

Americans will get it on AT&T. It’s launching on Rogers on July 11th.

Will this phone have video out? I was looking for a solution to use slingbox on a phone and then video out to my pioneer avic-n3 monitor in my car. Does anyone know of a phone that is slingbox compatible and also has a video out port?

It’s the same processor so it should be the same speed. Check the FCC or any other blog ie. engadget etc.

Yo ANGELO! I have an avic-n3 aswell… I’ve been trying to look for something or anything that could play videos on my car monitor but da only thing ive found is theres this cable that has audio and video output so u can watch videos on ur monitor…. The bad thing is that u have to go to ur ipod everytime u wanna change videos.. And that’s anoying… I think we have to upgrade to the avic-n4 so it will be all touch on our monitor

I want this phone too. When Steve Jobs announced it, he specificly said that it will sell for $199 (8GB). I know that Rogers will carry it. I know that Rogers will not just sell it for $199 with no contract. If Rogers sell it for $199 with like 4 year contract, then that contradicts what steve jobs said about $199 flat…. what do you guys think?

    live_strong  |  June 11th, 2008 at 12:59 pm

I think Rogers will require a three year contract with a $60/month plan to get the $199 price point.

    claire  |  June 12th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

will it be available in the Philippines?? where in the Philippines??

    Alberto  |  June 15th, 2008 at 3:25 pm

    ITS A RIP OFF

Current iPhone Plan $20 including 250 TXT
New iPhone is $30 without any TXT $35 with TXT.

2y Contract for one line is about 1,950.00 so Its a big rip off.

its a huge rip off. money hungry bastards. >:0

10 dollars more a month!? are they aware that no where CLOSE to EVERYONE has 3g? So what, we would be paying 10 dollars more a month (WITHOUT TEXTING, btw) for the same slow internet we already have? It’s bogus. NO thank you. You just lost a fan apple.

    kalok  |  June 20th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

I don’t know where you are located Michael, but 3G network are expanding more and more lately. My friend who works at Ericsson (company that does Rogers Network) said the network will be completely optimized by end-summer.

This ipod phone is so over-hyped, yeah yeah I know its apple and canadians need to show off that they understand technology, but at the end its only going to be for those 10% that actually do enterprising, and the rest of the 90% will be buying a new ipod or facebook posting like the chic in the rogers commercial with the n95, what a waste….

Hi, do you know if it it’s possible to use the Iphone in Italy with an Italian SIM-Card? I found a very interesting data package: 50 hrs, no data limit, for just 9 Euros
