Easy gypsy, clearly you have never heard of an unlocked phone before.

I’m a 10 year Rogers customer and in March of this year, I subscribed to Rogers $7 per month called ‘Unlimited WAP Browsing’. The agent explained that it may not work with my iPhone, and I told her that I’d give it a try and if it didn’t work, I’d cancel.

It turned out that it was pretty easy to get it working, and voila, I was browsing the ‘net on my iPhone for $7 per month. This worked well for several months until July 4, ‘08, when I received a bill for $177.77 for ‘On-device browsing’.

I called to find out the reason for the sudden fee increase and was told that it is because I’m using a non-Rogers device on the network and that if I used my Sony Ericson phone procured via Rogers, I wouldn’t be charged the fees. I was also told that this is probably being done to beef up the network in preparation for the official launch of the iPhone on the Rogers network. This strikes me as immoral, if not illegal–what device I use should have no impact on what Rogers charges for transferring bits, notwithstanding the fact that any dramatic changes in fees/plans should be discussed with customers before billing them $177.77 out of nowhere.

I for one will begin looking elsewhere…

As some of you may or may not know, the site was pulled from the previous hosting provider for abuse of resources.

We have offered to James last night to host the site free of charge and have transferred the site to our servers.

The DNS changeover, known as propagation, can take up to 72 hours depending on the speed of your ISP. All our DSL customers are already able to utilize the site without issue.

If you are still unable to access the site, I advise using OpenDNS – http://www.opendns.com/ for your DNS rather than your ISP’s DNS servers.

Its got the sole marketing rights for the iPhone, and as is its usual practise, is taking advantage of that fact by gouging its customers as much as possible with far higher monthly fees user than one pays in the US market – and probably everywhere else as well.

Rogers has been grossly overcharging Canadians for years now in every segment of their operations, so it’s not surprising that they are doing it once again with the Apple iPhone.

I got like 200 e-mails about this subject. I don’t think that Rogers is blocking our website. The fact that I’ve changed the DNS of the domain name is probably the true reason. The DNS need to propagate in all the servers around the world. It could take as long as 48 hours for this task to be done. Thank you for your patience and please, don’t start a petition against Rogers for this (haha).
