Lengthy write-up. I'll revisit and read it. What caught my eye was your Suunto wristwatch. I've worn the Sunnto X-Lander (green -lit) for years and years.

AND I took a newborn (iPhone) opportunity to install the "Docs" app and OpenSSH all my .pdf user manuals (including my Honda generator and chain saw manuals) to the iPhone.

As far as your write-up, it's safe to say, in Rod Stewart's words, "every picture tells a story. don't it?!!

Many thanks!!!

Best,

Andy

Nice, you're a bigger gadget-meister than yours truly. I've gotta show that travel gear pic to my wife as she's always complaining that I bring too much stuff, lol. Great pics. I love the pic of the man with his dressed up dog. Cheers.

X200s is exactly what you are looking for. Lighter, smaller, and much better battery life.

cool post! we actually did a similar trip in september, 4 days to hong kong, 9 days to japan (with a 2 week trip to the philippines thrown in to visit relatives). my wife and i only carried 1 handset each, nokia N82s. i thought the N82 would work in japan but it did not. it worked great in Hong Kong though.

Great write up Howard. I've also just came back from a 3+ week Asia trip and brought along few gadgets myself (but not nearly as much as you). I gave up on working on phones and decided to work with phone cards and the good ole 'lets meet up here at this time' method when splitting up with my friend. It made me appreciate how people travelled back in the day and when getting lost, it can actually take you to interesting places (assuming you make it back to your destination).
I did learn one lesson to pack less and lighter on my future trips and I guess knowing what worked and didn't work was an interesting read here!

I believe I can replace your cradle point portable router with WMWiFiRouter software on my Kaiser or FUZE and approximate the same battery times, or more with USB-charging, or some sort of portable battery booster either from iGo or ThinkGeek.
