F-Secure has detected the first worm for mobile phones spread through SMS service. The worm know as “Sexy View” relies on contact information, specifically phone numbers, stored on your smartphone to spread itself.

The worm works by sending SMS messages to your contracts containing a link to a malicious website with the promise of “hot pictures”. If the receiver of the SMS clicks on the link they are prompted to install an application which in turn will infect their smartphone with the worm. The information that the worm harvests is then sent back to its creators who most likely will use the information for SMS spam.

kwiry allowed users to send text messages to a short code from their mobile device then later retrieve the message from a PC. The idea was simple “text it before you forget it”. I just received and e-mail for kwiry that they will be discontinuing service April 23, 2009 due to “economic realities”. Read the e-mail below:

It’s with heavy hearts that we write this post. On April 23, 2009 (12AM PDT), we will be discontinuing the kwiry service. As of today, the service will no longer accept new sign-ups. We have very much enjoyed getting to know many of you and working to build features to help you get things done and simplify your lives. We appreciate all of your help, feedback and patience as the kwiry service evolved. Unfortunately, due to economic realities, we can no longer maintain the service.
From now until April 23, you can download all of your past kwirys in .csv format (can be opened in Excel as a spreadsheet) once you login.
We want to thank our wonderful and supportive investors at Hummer Winblad, our board of advisors and our partners. Also, we couldn’t have done any of this without the tireless support of our friends and family during the last few years.
Thanks for being part of the kwiry community,
-Ron, Steve & Nabil

Looks like most BlackBerry users in Canada and the United States are currently without e-mail service. From what I have read it appears all service providers are affected by this outage: Rogers, AT&T, Verizon, etc.
Are you experiencing no e-mail service or delays receiving messages, leave a comment below.
