nice for the rogers secret police to be on here spouting their propaganda. what about all your premium sms revenue? how about letting people block those lame services that send them jokes or horoscopes and scam them out of money? oh, right, you won't do that.... and, you say internet forum people don't count - http://www.crtc.gc.ca/public/partvii/2009/8620/u11_200901951/1064663.pdf

I would pay for unlimited messaging if I didn't have to pay $6.95 for a system access fee. I'm thinking of canceling Rogers and my 8900 and get a simple phone on Fido.

@ Paul,

Can you leave your contact information so we can run our opinions past you for validation?

Also, You'll note that my comment was a round about comment on apathy. If people need it spelled out here it is:

VOTE, GET ACTIVE, MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD IN PLACES OTHER THAN COMMENT BOXES.

Easier to understand? Less subtle?

What a bunch of whiners!!
If you're receiving text messages, it's likely you've sending them as well. So, if you're sending text messages in the first place, it's obvious you would be on a text messaging plan. UNLESS, you're a dimwit who enjoys paying for each text you send. SUCK it up people! Why don't you all complain about something more worthwhile like the price of gas.

As soon as I heard that Rogers was doing this it made me shake my head. I give them kudos for the way they executed a very smart plan:

When the other carriers were saying "we're going to start charging for incoming texts." Rogers said "Not us!" So all those unhappy customers from other providers with contracts about to expire more than likely rode out the remaining portion and signed up with Rogers. There was also probably some who jumped right away.

So now, roughly a year later, with new customers in hand; Rogers follows suit. Pretty smart really. No I don't agree with it, and yes I do think it sucks.
I haven't seen anyone thinking LONG TERM here. Rogers happily mentions that the majority of customers have "Text messaging plans" . What happens when these plans expire? Probably just a "Little increase" in plan price with a "Little decrease" in number of texts etc.

Long story short, more money less service. Maybe a drop in satisfied customers and some will leave, but my guess is they're counting on Apathy. If it's small enough they can keep the majority while earning a profit.

My experience has been that Rogers seems to count on Apathy. Almost every bill we've had, after changing something on our plan, has had errors. Is it worth our time to call in and spend an hour on the phone correcting it? Sometimes yes sometimes no. How many customers does rogers have? 15 cents on a bill doesn't seem like much but say it occurs on 20,000 bills?

I'm sure that this is the case with most providers.

Um.... What are the odds that someone will ALWAYS receive wrong phone number text? I mean it's possible, don't get me wrong. But if you are crying for $0.15 for every 2 or 3 months, you should probably stop using a wireless phone.

As I've said it before, those who do txt should have a pack in which the incoming are free. If someone is not using txt at all, they should call Rogers to completely block it.
My point is, people have to be more responsible to their own usage.
Just like gas, yes they are expensive. Bike, walk or local transportation are cheaper.
Yes, it is expensive to send/receive SMS. So don't use it and call your service provider to block it.

Me neither, I'm not too happy that Rogers will start charging customer for incoming text. But it's not like Rogers didn't give customer the solution.

To other members, HC is a discussion website where you have your opinion and I have mine. There is no need to be aggressive

02171985 | May 7th, 2009 at 10:36 am is an idiot, paying for misdirected or "wrong phone number incoming texts" is criminal. You have no control if someone mistypes and sent you one.
Why should I, one of the 6% have to deal with your stupidity.

Just another money grab..
Out here on the prairies Rogers is not liked in most places and seem to be intent on making sure that their market share out here does not increase. Just plan stupid business practises.
