Just Hang Up

We have all gotten those calls to extend our vehicle warranty or increase our credit-limit and most of us just hang up.  Well due to the increase of fraud-related emails and phone calls Telus is reminding you to hang up on the scammers.  Telus advises not to give personal information over the phone or through and e-mail even if it seems legitimate.

BlackBerry Pearl Flip Pulled From Shelves

Bell Mobility just launched the BlackBerry Pearl Flip last week and has already pulled the device from retail locations.  Early adopters don’t worry-you will not need to return your beloved 8230-a simply firmware update should do the trick.

Existing customers should be receiving a text message on their Pearl Flip informing them that an update is available. Retail locations will be exchanging existing stock for devices with the new firmware.  Neither Research in Motion nor Bell Mobility has made public the reason for the software upgrade.  However a software glitch may explain why Telus is holding off launching their Pearl Flip

BlackBerry Pearl Flip-Telus

telus-bb-filp

After many leaked images of Telus’ BlackBerry Pearl Flip, mainly through BestBuy, the device has finally appeared on the Telus website.  Telus has both the black and pink Pearl Flip currently featured in the Telus Smart Fit Quiz, a micro site designed to help you pick the phone that suits you lifestyle.  Again no pricing or launch date but we should be seeing the Pearl Flip on store shelves soon.

Take the Telus Smart Fit Quiz here.

New 3G Network-Canada

An “available network scan” performed by “Treatz” on a Rogers BlackBerry Bold at 1:01 AM on February 2nd revealed a new 3G network-”302-6403G”.  A similar scan preformed in the same area during the day did not turn up the network so testing must be occurring during the night.  Check out the image below:

Could this be Telus/Bell’s new HSDPA network which is rumored to be launch by 2010-time will tell.

Texting Issues-Telus

A few Telus users are reporting problems with Telus’ text messaging service.  After composing a SMS and hitting the “SEND” key the message is returned saying “sending failed-retry?”.  Sometimes pressing retry once is not enough as it will just come back-if that happens it is suggested to continue trying to send the message until it is marked as sent.

HowardForums member “hani831″ describes the issue:
I get a network problem error, and I have to press resend like 3 times, the problem is sometimes I get this error but the person i’m texting receives the message anyways, and every time I press resend they get a copy. I have no idea whats going on!

Users have also mentioned that incoming text messages are also being affected.

HowardForums user “ob22″ writes: I sent myself a message even from the Koodo site and it has been a half hour and I still havev’t gotten it.

We have been told that Telus is currently is the process switching SMS infrastructure to a new system and should be completed sometime between late April to early May.

Well Telus finally got around to offical release the  BlackBerry Storm and it is already out of stock and on backorder.  You can still order the touch screen BlackBerry but clicking on the “Buy Now” button reveals the bad news.

As you can see from the image above pricing for a 3 year contract (new activations with $40 voice and data combination) is $249.99, 2 year contract is $449.99, 1 year contract is $549.99, or you can buy it outright for a wopping $599.99 (why not just make it an even $600?).
