The iPhone 3GS was launched on July 19th in most parts of the world, with it available from both Rogers and Fido in Canada. Two weeks after the launch and the 3GS is already sold out at Rogers and Fido retail locations across the country. The 3GS is reportedly still in stock at Apple stores across Canada. The iPhone 3G, last years model, may still be in stock at retail locations and will continue to be sold until stock is depleted. Expect stock of the 3GS to be replenished next week with back orders being filled first.

HowardForums’ member “RileyFreeman” is reporting that that TELUS will be launching the iPhone in October. The leak is courtesy of “… a(n) executive at Telus.” The iPhone would be launched on the HSPA network that is going to be completed around September, not the current CDMA network.

What do you think-is TELUS going to score the iPhone when the HSPA launches later this year? Leave your thoughts below.

Although AT&T does not officially support tethering your iPhone (running OS 3.0) to you computer does not mean you can’t, MacMegaSite has found around the carrier restriction. This workaround is only compatible with a Mac, sorry PC users.

1. Download the carrier update file. Then extract it. (file hosted at Wired.com)
2. Launch the Terminal app and type the following command:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
3. Now launch iTunes. In the iPhone window, hold the Option key while clicking Restore. Then select the ipcc file in the disk image you downloaded and click OK.
4. iTunes will update the carrier settings. Now under General settings, tap the Network tab and an internet tethering option should appear. From there on, you should be able to easily tether the iPhone via Bluetooth or USB.

Rogers will also be bringing back the $30/6GB data option for iPhone users.

Fido, a subsidiary of Rogers Communications Inc., has started to sell previous used iPhones through the loyalty and retention department. Refreshed iPhones were purchased and returned within the first 15 days of use.
Pricing for the “refreshed” iPhones is as follows:
$149 – 8GB on 3-year term
$249 – 16GB on 3-year term

Only customers on a price plan before the relaunch of the Fido brand (November 4, 2008) are able to get these “refreshed” iPhones. Also note, “refreshed” iPhones only have a 6 month warranty, not the full 12 months that new ones do.

This could be possibly one of the coolest iPhone 3G cases we have seen yet. “That Girl” over at That Girl’s Site snapped this shot on a recent trip to Japan. As you can see in the photo, the clear hard plastic case is snaps onto the rear of the iPhone-looks good on the white model, not sure what it would look like on the black one.
No word on where you can purchase your own-if you know post a comment below.
